I remember waking up
to Frank Sinatra’s voice
each morning.
As mother would sing
along to the lines of Moon river
or My funny valentine.
Sooner than later—
I wake hearing echoes
of her voice;
crooning what is left
of beautiful memories
to remember my childhood
memories.
She sung even when
she knew her soul is lost
trying to raise this rebellious
child a midst this cruel thing
you’d call a world. -
